About
How do parents respond when a young person comes out? And how does that response differ across specific cultural groups in Canada?
In this Lunch with SARAVYC session, Dr. Adi Ferrara shares findings from her recent poster presentation at the Canadian Public Health Association’s 2025 meeting. She will discuss how supportive and non-supportive behaviours show up in families, and what those patterns mean for youths’ well-being. We’ll translate the evidence into practical takeaways for researchers, service providers, and anyone working to create safer, more affirming environments for 2SLGBTQ+ youth.
You’ll learn:
• What support and its opposite look like across specific cultural contexts—and why both matter
• How parental responses shape mental health and help-seeking among youth
• Implications for outreach, parent engagement, and culturally responsive practice
• Direction that future research can take
When: Thursday, Aug 21, 2025, 12:30–1:00 p.m. PT
Audience: Researchers, practitioners, policymakers, educators, students, and community advocates.
