Abstract:
We are thrilled to share how virtual reality (VR) is transforming long-term care and hospitals! Come and learn how researchers, care staff, and older adults living with dementia co-create immersive, person-centred, and culturally relevant VR experiences to enhance connection, joy, and well-being. Discover the challenges and future potential of this innovative health-tech initiative, and get a chance to try an Indigenous VR drumming experience during the April Nursing Rounds.
Speakers:
Dr. Lillian Hung is the founder and head of IDEA lab (Innovation in Dementia & Aging). Her research examines how technology and the environment impact the care experiences of persons with dementia. She has expertise in patient-oriented research and knowledge translation. She is committed to facilitating connectivity between academia and practice, working collaboratively with interprofessional practitioners to find practical solutions to address pressing problems in care settings.
Joey Wong is a 3rd year PhD student in the School of Nursing, supervised by Dr. Lillian Hung and Dr. Alison Phinney. She led the VIP project in the IDEA Lab, co-creating virtual immersive programs in long-term care homes. She is passionate about collaborating with patient and family partners in research and community initiatives.
