About
Portraits from a Fire
The Indigenous Nursing Collective and the Nursing Undergraduate Society extend a warm invitation to the screening of the award-winning Portraits from a Fire, a film by Trevor Mack, award winning filmmaker from the Tsilhqot'in Nation, followed by a post-screening Q&A with William Lulua, who stars in the film.
Part coming-of-age comedy, part family mystery, the film follows Tyler, a young aspiring filmmaker whose humorous documentation of life in his Tsilhqot'in community takes an unexpected turn as long-buried family truths begin to surface.
This event will be offered in a hybrid format.

William grew up in the remote area known as the Nemiah Valley. It is there he learned about language, land, and his love of the outdoors. It is this love that has guided him towards learning about the interconnections between all living beings. Acknowledging this interconnection leads us to a deeper understanding of one another. Through all aspects of acting, dance, knowledge keeping/sharing, speaking the language, and role modelling for others William hopes to inspire folks to embrace their authentic self.
