Nurses in every setting from maternal child to palliative care provide care to people who use substances in ways that may harm their health. Further, in every setting, a high percentage of patients/clients will have experienced some form of violence. This session will share approaches and resources for practice and teaching to promote substance use health, using culturally safe and trauma and violence informed approaches. Resources shared will include a substance use safety planning tool, an animation on substance use and a mini-video. Participants will be invited to play a game for use in teaching or supporting teams to use strength-based approaches.
