Congratulations to Dr. Sabrina Wong and the Canadian Primary Care Research Network team (CPCRN) on their successful application to the CIHR-Healthcare Excellence Canada Partnership competition.
October 21, 2025
Dr. Wong's multi-partnership team has been awarded $6 million in funding through the PRIME: Primary Care Reimagined – Impact, Mobilization and Engagement Rapid Response initiative, supported by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) - which contributed $3M with the matching to be provided by partners. This marks the first funded grant for the joint CPCRN/CPCRC partnership.
The project will strengthen primary care across Canada through the addition of new partnerships with Healthcare Excellence Canada (HEC) and the Alberta Network Environments for Indigenous Health Research (NEIHR).
Through this initiative, CPCRN/CPCRC will collaborate with approximately 50 primary care practices participating in HEC’s Care Forward program. Together, they will enhance integrated and team-based care, improve access and continuity, and advance equity-focused approaches to innovation.
This achievement reflects the collective strength and commitment of the CPCRN/CPCRC network. So, once again, congratulations to Dr. Wong and everyone involved in securing this important investment in Canada’s primary care research community.
