Dr. Havaei discusses the conditions that have led to the current job action called by the BC Nurses' Union, and notes the unique and complex issues that will make negotiations more challenging. She says the strike raises the question:
Are we organizing care so nurses can spend most of their time using their skills—the skills that only they are trained to provide?
And from a health system perspective, that’s really about making the best possible use of a scarce and valuable workforce.
