Kim Honey, Editor and Chief of The Conversation Canada, states that the Independent UK picked up Dr. Kristen Haase's article, "The Leading Risk Factor for Cancer Isn't What You Think" which was published in June, 2025. As a result, it has become the most read article on the digital only news site, with 2.7 million reads so far. Ms. Honey indicated this story "was already the most-read Conversation Canada article of 2025, but this puts it into the stratosphere. Congrats!"
Ms. Honey further indicated that publishing with The Conversation has a multiplier effect "because any media outlet can use our articles free of charge under a creative commons license."
Dr. Haase notes that this result indicates "an important KT element and supports the need for faculty to have training in these alternate forms of knowledge mobilization." Referencing a workshop she completed in 2021 on how to write for The Conversation, she stated:
I know sometimes these workshops and initiatives are offered and we wonder about the impact--I would say that this is a pretty convincing example of why these types of initiatives are important.
