Five faculty members from UBC Nursing have been honoured as Faculty Wellbeing Champions — part of an inaugural UBC-wide recognition event celebrating instructors who create learning environments where students can genuinely thrive.
April 22, 2026
The honourees are: Dr. Carla Ferreira, Associate Professor of Teaching and Associate Director of Experiential Education; Dr. Elisabeth Bailey, Associate Professor of Teaching and Associate Director of Undergraduate Programs; Kristen Gilbert, Sessional Lecturer and Sexual Health Education Program Lead; Dr. Angela Russolillo, Assistant Professor; and Dr. John Oliffe, Professor and Canada Research Chair in Men's Health Promotion.
On April 7, 2026, over 100 students, faculty, staff, and university leaders gathered in the Ponderosa Ballroom to celebrate the Faculty Wellbeing Champions Recognition Event, the first of its kind on UBC Vancouver campus. With 190 nominations across 13 faculties, all 124 nominated faculty were recognized as champions — an acknowledgement that wellbeing in the classroom is shaped by many small, everyday actions that leave lasting impacts.
The event was student-driven, and student speakers shared personal stories of faculty impact, highlighting moments of empathy, flexibility, and inclusive teaching that shaped their experience at UBC. That five of the honourees come from UBC Nursing reflects what nursing education has long understood: that caring for learners and caring for patients are not separate commitments.

Congratulations to Carla, Elisabeth, Kristen, Angela, and John.
