Community Veterinary Outreach Receives Civic Volunteer Award from the City of Vancouver

15 Jul 2019

On July 12, 2019, CVO was awarded an Award of Excellence, Civic Volunteer category by the City of Vancouver. This award recognizes those who excel at volunteering to make Vancouver a better place to live, work, and play.

Community Veterinary Outreach (CVO) is a registered charity organization that strives to provide marginalized populations and their cherished companion animals with health and veterinary care. Kelsi Jessamine, a current MSN student, initially got involved as a volunteer for CVO in Ottawa. Eventually, Kelsi successfully imported the innovative model to British Columbia, and built partnerships with UBC Schools of Nursing and Pharmacy, Paws for Hope, BC College of Dental Hygienists, Royal Canin, and more.

Through the quarterly One Health clinics, pet owners receive mental health support, harm reduction services, and further referrals. In addition, volunteer professionals provide veterinary services including referrals to sterilization services, vaccinations, parasite medication, and pet food.
