Government of Canada invests in UBC Dementia Project

21 Jan 2020

Dr. Alison Phinney leads project to help Canadians living with dementia and their caregivers

On January 31, 2020, the Government of Canada announced its investment in projects that will be beneficial to people living with dementia and their caregivers. Because more than 419,000 Canadians over 65 are living with diagnosed dementia, Dr. Phinney says, “Now more than ever, it’s important to expand the ability of people living with dementia to improve their quality of life and participate in their community.”

“The UBC School of Nursing is pleased to be taking the lead on this important initiative, working in collaboration with community groups to build systems of support to reduce the isolation and stigma that so often surround dementia. Ultimately, this project will improve health and wellbeing through meaningful social participation for people living with dementia and their family and friend caregivers.”
