Excellence in Advancing Nursing Knowledge & Research
Jennifer Baumbusch, PhD, RN
Dr. Jennifer Baumbusch is a tenured Associate Professor at the UBC School of Nursing. Her capacity and the quality of her work as a researcher has been recognized though the number of national scholarships and awards she has received. She has led, and been a part of, a number of research teams and has received over $1.5M in funding from highly competitive sources (e.g., CIHI and MSFHR). Jennifer has authored 34 peer reviewed publications and has presented her research to a wide array of audiences. She is sought after as a reviewer for grants and publications and is frequently invited to consult on educational and practice issues.
While these accomplishments are impressive on their own, it is the way Jennifer achieves her research goals that is most noteworthy. Her consistent and ongoing commitment has been to generate knowledge to inform and enhance the care received by seniors in all practice contexts (i.e. regional communities, residential settings, acute care). Her research approaches "give voice" by considering the patient and family perspectives, as well as the points of view of those providing care to them. Her partnerships ensure that her research is addressing priorities for practice. Her analyses inform ways care can be provided and inform decisions about how care can be planned, structured and organized.
Jennifer is recognized as having significant methodological expertise and, through mentorship, is recognized for her skill in encouraging nurses in practice to "embrace the research adventure". She is a role model, not only for those who aspire to engage in research, but she also models the nursing commitment to ensuring all populations, including those who are marginalized by their age, disability or social stature, have access to, and derive the benefit of, quality care that is delivered in ways that are respectful and responsive.
