Men and boys are under increased pressure to be fit, muscular, and manly. Over the last 20 years this message has been perpetuated in advertising and media to convince men that this is the only desirable body type.

As Suicide Awareness Day approaches on January 25, John Oliffe and Britney Dennison blog about Man Up Against Suicide's project - an example of community-based program that can help reduce male suicide.
The Men's Depression and Suicide Network strives to reduce and de-stigmatize men's depression and suicide. "Evidence of a Struggle" is the network's initial video offering, following the work of Trevor Mills, local hip-hop performer and high-school mentor.
Nursing professor Sally Thorne was one of 76 authors (and three organizers) of an open letter to the British Medical Journal arguing the importance of qualitative research and the level of interest such research is able to garner. The open letter has attracted among the top downloads in the history of the BMJ.
