Additional course work includes: completion of Managing Hospital Operations Program, co-sponsored by the Intitute for Health Improvement and Harvard University. In the past few years have presented at provincial and national conferences on quality work environmnts and ER-related topics. Co-investigator in a study with SFU Wosk Centre for Dialogue on collaboration between acute care and residential care (on-going).
Current interests revolve around operations management and patient flow across the continuum,with a focus on acute care. Current change initiatives underway at Burnaby Hospital, which will form a part of ongoing, future collaborative studies, are leading to dramatically improved outcomes for quality and efficiency, in the form of reduced length of stay, improved care planning and improved quality of care.
Responsible for financial and patient care operations as well as strategic planning for a 300-bed community hospital, with a budget of approximately 60 million dollars and 600 FTE. Acts as the key community healthcare resource for municipal, provincial and federal governments and responsible for maintaining an integrated health system between acute care and community programs. Liaise with Fraser Health Corporate services and involved in many corporate committees, task groups and other activities. Chair, Fraser Health medical clinical services planning and delivery team. Fraser Health representative on the Provincial Nursing Joint Policy Committee.
Educational responsibilities include facilitation of an ongoing session on operational and financial management at the BC Nurse Leadership Retreat, sponsored by UBC at Harrison Hotsprings
