Annette Browne Serves as Expert Witness

Professor Annette J. Browne was called by the Quebec Provincial Coroner to serve as Expert Witness in the Public Inquiry into the death of Joyce Echaquan. According to the CBC, the top recommendation in Quebec coroner Géhane Kamel's report is for the province to acknowledge that systemic racism exists and "make the commitment to contribute to its elimination."

Following the decision, Dr. Browne co-authored a CBC opinion piece with Mary Jane Logan McCallum, Josée Lavoie, and Christa Big Canoe: Brian Sinclair, Joyce Echaquan died years apart in hospitals. Only one of their inquests points to change.
