Melanie brings extensive experience in perinatal and newborn care across clinical, educational, and provincial system levels. Her work includes supporting major provincial initiatives, such as serving as a subject matter expert for the Baby’s Best Chance resource review in 2024, and contributing to the technical design, content development, and launch of the Perinatal and Newborn Health Hub.
At the University of British Columbia, Melanie teaches across the full spectrum of learning, teaching theory in NURS 345, lab in NURS 401/322, and clinical practice in NURS 365, helping students connect foundational concepts to real-world nursing care. She also teaches the NURS 180 elective in the summer term. Melanie remains active in clinical education, providing bedside support and delivering Fetal Health Surveillance (FHS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) training to healthcare providers. She additionally offers prenatal education for expectant families, bringing evidence-informed practice together with compassionate, practical guidance.
Melanie is passionate about fostering inclusive, supportive, and engaging learning environments. She integrates Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles and active learning strategies into her teaching to ensure accessibility, promote critical thinking, and create meaningful learning experiences for students. Her approach reflects a commitment to learner success and equity in the BSN program.
