Adjunct FAQs
UBC definition of Adjunct Faculty
Adjunct faculty appointments are part-time, term appointments granted to individuals who have some special professional skill or learning of value to the University but who are primarily engaged in the practice of their professions outside UBC.
Appointment at the adjunct rank does not imply that the appointee has the qualifications necessary for appointment to one of the regular academic ranks.
Adjunct Appointments and Behavioural and/or Clinical Research Ethics Applications
Conditions for School of Nursing Department Approval: Any person holding a current adjunct appointment with the UBC School of Nursing requires that an employed or active emeritus faculty member be identified as a member of the research team. Adjunct faculty without a faculty partnered application will not be eligible for School of Nursing Departmental Approval. If you have any questions about eligibility please contact the UBC Nursing Associate Director of Research and Teaching Scholarship.
Adjunct Appointments and Research Funding
UBC Research Policy (LR2) 4.1 Administration of Research Funds indicates that eligibility for research spending responsibility is granted to UBC faculty who have a tenure stream faculty appointment as a Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, Professor of Teaching stream, or Emeritus status.
As such, adjunct faculty who seek to hold research funding at the UBC School of Nursing must do it under the auspices of a faculty member who holds a tenure stream academic rank. This also ensures funding is overseen by faculty with familiarity with the complex UBC administrative environment and financial management system.
What opportunities will I have to contribute at the School of Nursing?
