Eligibility & Program Details
UBC-Vancouver BSN Program Opens to
- Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents of Canada and persons with Refugee status in Canada may apply to the program.
- Applicants with a completed Bachelors Degree (or equivalent)
- Applicants who have completed a minimum of 48 transferable credits in a field of study other than Nursing that are part of a program of study recognized by UBC.

Program Commencement: September
Length: Full-time 20 months
Mode of program: In-Person
Location: UBC Vancouver Point Grey Campus/ Practicum – Metro Vancouver area
Does not provide a bridge program (from LPN (Licensed practical nurses) to RN (Registered Nurse))
At the completion of the program, you will be eligible to apply to the BCCNP to write the national exam and on successful completion apply for provincial nursing registration, which is required to practice as a Registered Nurse in BC.
Does not take any previously completed Nursing program credits from other institution into UBC-V BSN program
Does not offer a High School direct entry

Human Anatomy and Physiology Prerequisite - PLAR Assessment and Application
1. Human anatomy and physiology courses which are not listed on our website must meet the following criteria for PLAR assessment:
a. The coursework must show at least 6 post-secondary/university level credits of human anatomy and physiology (completed at an accredited institution) – at least 75-78 hours of contact time:
- 3 contact hours per week x 13 weeks over two (2) terms, or
- 6 contact hours per week x 13 weeks over one term
b. The course(s) must cover the anatomy and physiology of the following human body systems:
- Cardiovascular - Muscular and skeletal
- Digestive - Nervous
- Endocrine - Reproductive
- Immune - Respiratory
- Integumentary - Urinary
c. The course(s) must cover HUMAN, not cell or animal anatomy/physiology content, and include both the STRUCTURE and FUNCTION of all body systems listed above.
d. The course outlines submitted with the PLAR application must be from the year when the courses were completed.
e. Course(s) must be completed within the last 4 years at the time of application.
NOTE: Applicants for September 2024 intake must present HAP course(s) completed within the last 4 years at the time of application (i.e., after September 2019).
2. Applicants who completed human anatomy and physiology courses outside the 4-year time limit are required to provide supporting documentation to show current knowledge of ALL human body systems. In addition to the PLAR application, applicants must submit a current resume, a letter of explanation addressed to the PLAR committee, transcripts/outlines for additional HAP courses taken since the course(s) was/were completed, and other documentation they consider appropriate to support the application. Applicants who might qualify for this category include internationally trained physicians, practicing massage therapists, practicing doctors of naturopathy.
The PLAR committee reviews PLAR applications and determines if the coursework meets the required HAP content. The committee does not grant transfer credit.
Complete the PLAR application form (September 2024 intake). The PLAR application deadline is December 01,2023.
Minimum Academic Standing
To be considered for admission to the BSN program, you must have a minimum 70% average, or grade point average of 2.8 (calculated on a 4-point scale) based upon the most recent 30 non-nursing, university transferable credits completed at the undergraduate level.
