Bio
Carrie Willekes is the Senior Manager at Minoru Residence, a Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) owned and operated long term care home in Richmond. She is responsible for the day-to-day operations and support a leadership team, 250 residents, their families, and over 300 staff.
She has been working in healthcare for close to 30 years and has worn many hats during her career including Manager, Nursing Faculty Member (both the Practical Nursing and Baccalaureate Nursing programs), Clinical Nurse Leader, Educator, Head Nurse, and staff nurse. She has worked in long term care, palliative care, medicine, surgery, and emergency. She is proud to have worked as both a Resident Care Attendant and Licensed Practical Nurse before becoming a Registered Nurse in 2001.
Issues that older adults face have been dear to her. She takes great interest in removing barriers for our older adults and for the health and wellness of our most vulnerable. She has come to believe that healthcare is not "one size fits all," and this is a large part of the messaging and innovative work that she brings to each care home. She values partnerships and connections that are made with residents, their family, and staff.
