Cheryl Prescott is an adjunct faculty member with the UBC School of Nursing. She has been working at the FHA Population Public Health Sexual Health team as Clinical Nurse Specialist since January 2018. Her current work is guided by PPH renewal and the Sexual Health/ Blood born infection program re-design. Current work includes implementation of regional sexual health prevention and promotion, STIBBI testing strategies to meet identified program goals.
Cheryl’s nursing experience has focused on communicable disease (STI, HIV and Viral Hepatitis) and harm reduction. She led the BCCDC – BC College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP) STI certification education course and STI clinical practice experience program for public health nursing STI certified practice designation. This worked peaked national interest and in 2014 and as a result, Cheryl participated in the Canadian Nursing Association Forum on RN Prescribing as part of a national strategy advocating for the expansion of registered nursing scope of practice.
Up to 2017, Cheryl led the development and review processes for CRNBC certified practice and BCCDC non-certified practice STI DSTs and she continues to remain deeply engrossed in the nuances of this specialized nursing practice through ongoing research, evaluation, development and dissemination of practice and related policy. Cheryl holds a Masters of Public Health (with a focus on social policy and advanced nursing practice) and remains involved policy development that supports health equity in relation to STIBBI and Harm Reduction. In 2015 she received the ARNBC award for Excellence in Nursing Education and currently holds a UBC School of Nursing Affiliate Faculty Member appointment.
