THE UBC MODEL FOR NURSING

Headshot of Dr. Margaret Campbell on cover of her text

The UBC Model for Nursing is a conceptual framework guiding nursing practice decision making developed by a team of faculty members under the leadership of Dr. Margaret Campbell in the early 1970s. For many years, it formed the basis for the UBC School of Nursing curricula and patient assessment frameworks. It also served as a basis for graduate learning experiences in conceptual knowledge development and the philosophy of nursing science.

Although the UBC School of Nursing no longer relies exclusively on the UBC Model for Nursing as its primary foundational document, it remains proud of the contribution that this Model made to the theoretical and philosophical development of nursing science in Canada and internationally. The UBC Model for Nursing continues to be acknowledged in current nursing fundamentals texts and reviews of theory within the discipline.
