UBC Nursing Graduate Student Conference Travel Award

The UBC School of Nursing Graduate Student Conference Travel Award assists graduate students in sharing the results of their research and other scholarly products with scholarly and/or professional audiences, to contribute to students' career development, and to provide them with advancement opportunities. Students must be registered in a research based UBC-Vancouver graduate nursing program including MSN, NP and PhD. This excludes a small number of professional programs, such as MHLP and certificate programs. 

• Students must be selected through a competitive peer-reviewed open, and publicly advertised process, to present a paper or poster in person at an academic conference, such as annual disciplinary meetings or more focused workshops or symposia.
• The conference or competition must take place while the student is enrolled in a UBC-Vancouver Nursing graduate degree program. Students on official on-leave status at the time of the presentation are not eligible. Enrollment ceases at the end of the month when all degree requirements are completed, not at the time of convocation.
• Multiple students cannot receive the full award for the same paper / poster. In cases where there are multiple presenters of a co-authored paper or poster, a single student (normally, the student who made the greatest contribution to the paper or poster) may apply for and receive the award.
• Students must not have previously received the award during the same degree program.

Registration fees and expenses associated with travel to give a conference presentation are eligible including flights (economy fare), hotels, parking, taxis/transit, and meal per diems (UBC rates).

• PAYMENT TO STUDENT: Upon approval of the application form and proof of conference presentation, applicant can submit invoices for reimbursement up to a maximum of $500 to the UBC Nursing finance team (include award REF# with all submissions).  If funded, the student will receive additional instructions including a UBC Nursing student expenses form.  
• PAYMENT TO UBC FACULTY SUPERVISOR: In some cases, the applicant may wish for their UBC faculty supervisor to be paid the award funds (i.e. if their faculty supervisor covering the remaining travel expenses to the conference).   Upon receipt of the application form and proof of conference presentation, funds will be transferred directly from the Fund into the faculty supervisor's research account in Workday.

Applications are accepted at any time throughout the year and considered on a first-come basis. Student applications will be accepted at time of conference abstract acceptance.

There is a 1-week turn around for confirmation of funding availability, but funds will not be awarded until receipts are submitted for reimbursement.
