Enhancing clinical reasoning for nursing students

With increase in aging populations and the number of patients with advanced diseases, nurses must respond to diverse and high-level health needs. Nurses must make correct and efficient decisions in diverse and complex clinical situations, using clinical judgment,  and clinical reasoning.  Clinical reasoning is a necessary cognitive and meta-cognitive component of clinical judgment in nursing.  This seminar will present concept of clinical reasoning and the differentiation of clinical reasoning and clinical judgment.  

Bio: Dr. Ju Hee Lee's research focus is on improving chronic disease management for older adults (e.g., Parkinson's disease) and educating nursing students in order to foster clinical reasoning ability  for management of elderly patients who have complex chronic disease.  Dr. Lee has also served as Associate Dean.

Since 2012, she has served as a principal investigator for Parkinson's disease patients' nursing care funded from the National Research Foundation, Republic of Korea.  Currently, this research is aimed to develop and evaluate the nurse-led navigator program for the Parkinson's disease patients in Korea.

Additionally, she served as a director of the simulation center in the College of Nursing, Yonsei University, teaching a 'clinical reasoning' course to senior level undergraduate  students and graduate students. In recognition of this work, she received awards from the Yonsei Uniersity for Excellence in Teaching Awards. Several research results are published in related journals.
