A report from the Association of Workers' Compensation Board says that nurses face more incidents of workplace violence than police officers and firefighters put together. Farinaz Havaei leads a team that has been studying this troubling issue. She has found a correlation between patient and family member complaints and workplace violence against nurses. This could mean that if nurses had the time and resources to address the complaints before they escalate, the incidents of violence may drop.
"How frequently do you get complaints from patients and family?" was one of the questions the study asked participants from clinical settings across British Columbia. For more, the news outlets that picked up this story included CBC BC Today and Global News with Jill Bennett.
