October 5, 2023
As a research and educational leader, Alison’s contributions to healthcare have been focused on improving the lives of people with dementia and their families. As an early proponent of patient-oriented research, she conducted ground-breaking research in true partnership with people with dementia, co-leading community-based, interdisciplinary projects that build knowledge and capacity for supporting personhood and social citizenship.
Alison has been instrumental in bringing together regional, national and international teams to show how people with dementia can remain active and engaged in their communities and in their care, thereby countering social stigma and deepening understanding of the lived experience of dementia.
This work has been recognized at an international level and has influenced policies aimed at fostering well-being and social inclusion in an aging population. Alison has also contributed to the development of new educational programs in seniors care, and mentored new generations of nursing and healthcare leaders to improve aging and dementia care through research, education, and practice.
We proudly celebrate this worthy recognition and all of Alison's considerable accomplishments!
