A collaboration between Abbotsford Senior Secondary School, A.R.T. & Justice – an arts-based research project based in the UBC School of Nursing, and Correctional Services of Canada. Through the Art Activism program, students finish the paintings that incarcerated Indigenous and non-Indigenous citizens began as an act of healing, learning, and reconciliation.
Incarcerated artists complete canvases with Abbotsford Senior Secondary students, as well collaborative poetry and mixed media art creation with Emily Carr students. The theme this year was selected by one of the incarcerated artists who participated last year, and is Bridging Divides, with a focus on finding spaces of inclusion and collaboration across difference in the face of the growing division in our world. A.R.T & Justice is focusing on supporting the holistic wellbeing of people in prison through arts-based community building.
