More about Geriatric Oncology
Cancer is most common in older adults. International guidelines – including those from the American Society of Clinical Oncology - indicate that all older adults should have a geriatric assessment and management prior to making a cancer treatment decision. Although these specialized clinics exist elsewhere in Canada, there are no formalized clinics within British Columbia. The objective of this Geriatric Oncology speaker’s series is to bring attention to the needs of older adults with cancer and the benefits of providing specialized geriatric oncology services. Led by global experts in geriatric oncology, this educational initiative will expand awareness of geriatric oncology services and build capacity amongst multidisciplinary healthcare providers within British Columbia.
