July 6, 2022
Congratulations to Dr. Jennifer Baumbusch, a double-alum of the school who has been promoted to the role of full professor as of July 1, 2022.
Jennifer first joined the School of Nursing as a BSN student (Class of 1996) and after furthering her education at Simon Fraser and the University of Western Ontario, Jennifer obtained her PhD at UBC in 2008. She continued to deepen her relationship with the school as Assistant Professor in 2009 and received tenure in 2015 with her promotion to Associate Professor. She holds a fellowship with the American Academy of Nursing, and has been honoured with a Nursing Centenary Award of Distinction from both the Arthur Labatt Family School of Nursing and the UBC School of Nursing.
Jennifer holds a Canadian Institute of Health Research Sex & Gender Science Chair in the Dynamics of Caregiving in an Aging Society. This research addresses an urgent need to conduct gender-based research into the complexities of care-giving in the context of the growing evidence that men, women, and gender diverse individuals living with dementia experience differences in the provision of health and social care.
While in the role of Program Director of both the Master of Health Leadership and Policy programs, Jennifer co-led the creation of the Seniors Care program curriculum and launched the Clinical Education program. These innovative professional programs provide graduate education for interdisciplinary healthcare professionals and combine the program areas of Seniors Care or Clinical Education with business and leadership courses. She is currently the program director of the Master of Health Leadership and Policy - Seniors Care.
Jennifer is a strong advocate for aging adults, for people who find themselves in long-term residential care, and for those living with physical and intellectual disability. She has offered her opinions in the media on subjects from senior's care amid the coronavirus pandemic (April 2020), through improving accessibility in public parks (August 2021), to critiques of governmental plans to deal with extreme heat (June 2022) and much more.
We are so proud of the arc of Jennifer's stellar academic career, and cannot be more pleased to announce this promotion of one of our own alumni. Congratulations!
Jennifer's promotion is one of three promotions to full professor that the School is celebrating in July 2022.
