January 19, 2024
Congratulations to Chantelle, our newest CIHR research fellow, whose research project is entitled Optimizing nursing workforce transformation using digital tools: Advancing the quintuple aim in cancer care.
The abstract reads:
The aim of this project is to optimize nursing workforce transformation in cancer care using digital tools and improve outcomes related to the quintuple aim. The project intends to analyze nurses' use of digital documentation and identify opportunities to enhance safety, efficiency, and equity in cancer care. The healthcare system is currently facing various challenges, and technology-based changes can bring unintended consequences, including potential harm. This project will apply a framework for using information and communication technology to support safety in the context of digital health and expand the analysis to include a broader definition of harm. The project will focus on the nursing workforce in cancer care as they are often the most frequent users of documentation systems and have the most direct contact with patients. The project will leverage insights from a qualitative study and a quantitative analysis of data to identify opportunities for improvement and test changes using quality improvement methods. The project's outcome will support continuous improvement towards the quintuple aim in cancer care.
Chantelle is supervised by Sandra Lauck and Leah Lambert.
