The School of Nursing at the University of British Columbia - Vancouver campus invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position. We are specifically recruiting for applicants with professional expertise and scholarship in equity-focused communicable disease management, especially epidemic or pandemic public health nursing. This new position is one of eleven created in the Faculty of Applied Science (APSC) through a UBC President’s Academic Excellence Initiative (PAEI) launched to recruit new academic expertise and research capability across the University. Through this opportunity, the constituent Schools and Departments of APSC have come together to recruit a like-minded cluster of new faculty around a shared vision of intellectual and research leadership on Healthy, Equitable and Adaptable Cities and Communities, within the strategic focus Thriving and Resilient Cities and Communities of the 2021 APSC strategic plan Transforming Tomorrow. APSC intends to create a collaborative, interdisciplinary community of scholars ready and able to challenge, create, and recreate knowledge, approaches and methods that contribute to the betterment of future cities and communities. The global COVID pandemic underscored the pervasive health equity disruptions of epidemics and pandemics, and the need for innovative responses across sectors. The anticipated start date for this tenure-track Assistant Professor position is July 1, 2025.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop an independent, internationally recognized research program relevant to public health nursing, to health care practice and/or to policy for people’s health related to communicable disease management in cities, and the future of public health nursing in Canada and beyond. They will teach core and/or elective courses at undergraduate and graduate levels, supervise graduate students (both Masters and PhD), and provide service to the University, the School, and to the profession. Applicants must have earned a PhD in nursing or a related discipline, be eligible for RN or NP registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives, and have a demonstrated track record of or possess clear potential to excel in research and teaching. Strong candidates will demonstrate how their work is influential for contemporary challenges, and advances innovation through collaborative work across academic disciplines and / or with non-academic partners. The successful candidate will be expected to work in collaboration with other new appointees and existing faculty in APSC to build a significant cluster of innovative teaching and research related to the cluster theme

Salary will be commensurate with level of educational preparation and experience. The expected salary range for this position is $115,000/year to $130,000/year.
