JOB SUMMARY
The main responsibility is to provide an objective review of supplemental applications submitted for admission to the BSN program offered at UBC-Vancouver campus. The reviewer is expected to thoroughly read and objectively assess each application based on established evaluation criteria. Each reviewer is assigned between 70-100 applications in Word format (based on number of received applications), and each reviewer will have two weeks to complete application reviews. All reviewers must be available for orientation / training, and the review period.
ORGANIZATIONAL STATUS
Reports to the Associate Director, Undergraduate Programs. Regular interaction with the BSN Admissions Coordinator.
WORK PERFORMED
- Works independently to read and score applications.
- Attends a 4-hour mandatory training session.
- Consults/uses the BSN supplemental application scoring guide.
- Understands the evaluation criteria used to score BSN supplemental applications and is diligent in providing a thorough, objective, accurate review.
- Provides strength and weakness comments based on evaluation criteria.
- Writes comments that are thorough and concise.
- Uses the EXCEL/Qualtrics (Survey application) marking tool to score applications and write comments.
- Notifies the BSN Admissions Coordinator of any conflict of interest prior to the start of the review process or if it becomes apparent during the process.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
The GAA will report to the Associate Director, Undergraduate Program and the Admissions Coordinator, Undergraduate Programs.
CONSEQUENCE OF ERROR/JUDGEMENT
Errors made could influence the timely completion of work, compromise the results of BSN admissions process and significantly damage the credibility of the School of Nursing and the University.
This position requires employees to work under strict confidentiality requirements, and internal procedures and policies to protect personal information must be followed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Currently enrolled in UBC Nursing Graduate Program. Minimum of 2 years related experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience with application review is an asset. Excellent time and project management skills. Attention to detail and ability to spot inconsistency. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Proficiency in computer software programs (e.g., Word, Excel, Power Point). Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information. Ability to follow and carry out written and verbal instructions. Ability to work independently as well as with others. Good critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Ability to exercise initiative and independence. Ability to work flexible hours.
