Marlene Burrows: Examining Nurse Practitioner Experiences in Delivering Virtual Care during the Covid-19 Pandemic
The COVID-19 pandemic required nurse practitioners (NPs) in the BC, including the Fraser Health Authority (FHA) to rapidly pivot to Virtual Care health services. Most NPs had little to no education on providing virtual care and there is a paucity literature on how to best deliver this type of care. In this presentation, Marlene will share the findings from the mixed methods research study “Examining Nurse Practitioner Experiences in Delivering Virtual Care during the Covid-19 Pandemic”.
BIO: Marlene Burrows has been a lecturer in the Nurse Practitioner since 2012 where she contributes to advancing nursing practice through clinical expertise, mentorship, and education. Her NP clinical experience includes, women’s health, travel health and primary care. Since 2019 she has been providing virtual primary care services to individuals and families across the province. As a result of this experience, Marlene was invited to collaborate with Fraser Health to examine NPs’ experiences providing virtual health care during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Julie Tipping: How millennial BSN faculty experience faculty-on-faculty bullying
This presentation centers on Dr. Tipping's research from her PhD in Education. She looked at Millennial BSN faculty's experience as a target of faculty-on-faculty bullying to address gaps in understanding their support and protection needs. This study was a generic qualitative approach using semi-structured interviews with millennial nursing faculty recruited via social media. Thematic analysis by Braun and Clarke identified four key themes: (1) negative consequences for the target, (2) negative behaviours by bullies, (3) reasons for bullying, and (4) positive outcomes of faculty-on-faculty bullying. While the first three themes align with existing literature, the fourth theme introduces new insights, suggesting that millennial faculty may experience unique benefits from these interactions. This novel finding highlights a gap in the literature and underscores the need for further research to explore its implications.
BIO: Dr. Julie Tipping is an experienced Healthcare Specialist who comes to UBC with experience as a Nursing Educator. Her expertise includes curriculum writing, policy analysis, emergency management, team-based care, and primary care. She holds a Masters of Education (Adult Education) (Yorkville University) and a PhD in Educational Leadership (Capella University)
