Congratulations to Melanie Basso, Adjunct and double alum, on receiving the Canadian Nurses Association's (CNA) 2025 Order of Merit Award (Registered Nurse).

The CNA Award Ceremony took place on Wednesday, October 29, 2025.
Melanie Basso, a perinatal nurse for 39 years, is Senior Practice Leader at BC Women’s Hospital and Health Centre, where she integrates clinical care, education, and evidence-based practice in an advanced practice nursing role.
Melanie has dedicated her nursing career to obstetrical maternity care for nearly four decades. She has served in multiple leadership roles in national and international organizations focused on improving maternity care, including seven years on the Board of Directors for the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada. A passionate caregiver, educator, mentor, and researcher, she has guided numerous students and nurses toward professional growth and Perinatal Certification. She has co-authored many national obstetrical guidelines. Deeply committed to interprofessional collaboration, Melanie also volunteers with Canadian Nurses for Africa, delivering primary health care in rural Kenya. Her pride comes from her work with patients with high-risk pregnancies and making changes at the health-care system level to improve care. As a marathon runner, Melanie brings endurance and dedication to every facet of her professional and personal life.
