Students in the accelerated UBC-V BSN Program are eligible to work as ESNs/HCAs only after they successfully complete NURS 331: Theoretical Perspectives in Nursing: Adults/Older Adults Experiencing Acute Health Challenges and Their Families and NURS 361: Nursing Practice with Adults/Older Adults Experiencing Acute Health Challenges and Their Families. These courses are both taken in UBC's Summer Term which runs from April/May until late July/beginning of August*. This is the only term when these courses are offered.
At UBC-V, the Clinical Practice Placement Unit (CPPU) and Student Services Office (SSO) handle the generation and distribution of forms students need to pursue ESN/HCA opportunities. The SSO/CPPU distribute the required forms on the timeline below:
- End of July/after final NURS 361 practice day: CPPU/SSO will share BCCNM form 10.1 with the students who have requested this form.
- After final grades for all Summer Term courses have been confirmed (early August): CPPU/SSO will share Letters of Good Standing with the students who have requested these.
All students considering ESN/HCA opportunities should carefully review the related policy. For questions related to ESN/HCA, please contact the CPPU at bsn.placements@nursing.ubc.ca .
*Specific dates vary based on the UBC Academic Calendar each year.
